Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono chaired a cabinet meeting at his office on Thursday to discuss plans to develop Papua, West Papua, and Southeast Sulawesi provinces.

In his introduction, the president said the development budget for Papua and West Papua had increased every year and it was expected that development of public welfare could be achieved through better planning and not merely with a big amount of budget.

"I would like to say that the amount of the budget is increasing every year, and therefore it should be used effectively. We have to listen to the three governors of Papua, West Papua, and Southeast Sulawesi and support their regional development plans, hoping that the synergy will go well," President Yudhoyono said.

The head of state added that when he visited flash flood devastated Wasior district in Papua recently, he took a few moment of his time to have a discussion with Governor Barnabas Suebu of Papua, Governor Abraham O Attaruti of West Papua, and Governor Nur Alam of Southeast Sulawesi about their respective regional development.

To follow up the discussion, the president asked the three governors to present their respective regional development plan in a cabinet meeting in order to be understood by related ministers who could support the plan and its implementation.(*)
